How to Dress for Cold Weather to Stay Warm
When it’s cold outside, wearing the right clothes can help you stay warm and comfortable. Here’s what you should wear and what to avoid to stay warm and cozy!
1. Wear Layers
Layers are like wearing more than one shirt or jacket on top of each other. Start with a soft shirt, add a sweater, and finish with a warm jacket. Layers trap warm air, which keeps you cozy. If you get too warm, you can take off a layer.
2. Put on a Hat
You lose a lot of heat from your head, so wearing a warm hat helps. A hat that covers your ears keeps you even warmer.
3. Use a Scarf and Gloves
A scarf keeps your neck warm, and gloves or mittens keep your hands toasty. Mittens are extra warm because your fingers stay together and share heat.
4. Wear Warm Pants and Socks
Choose thick pants or wear two pairs. Avoid jeans or cotton pants, which don’t keep heat well. For your feet, wear warm socks and boots, especially if it’s snowy or rainy.
Clothes to Avoid in Cold Weather
When active and running around, cotton, when you sweat, will give you a big chill and make you colder when it gets wet. Cotton clothes, like cotton T-shirts or pants, aren’t good choices for being active in cold weather. Cotton absorbs water easily, and just stays wet. Instead, wear synthetic materials or woolen materials that help keep you warm and dry.
Dress properly and stick to clothes made for cold weather, and you’ll be ready to play and have fun outside!
